Compost was first introduced when it was observed that plants grow better in areas close to rotting animal excrement and plant waste. The first information about the use of compost in the east is based on clay tablets from the Akkadian Empire, which are the oldest inscriptions in the world. In China and India, where animal husbandry is poor, it is known that even hundreds of years ago, there were practices made for current purposes.
Modern composting was first described by Albert Howard, who worked in India between 1905 and 1934. He conducted experimental studies on layers of compost materials and discovered the Indore Method. In the Indore method, it is stated that a good compost can be obtained by mixing different organic wastes instead of material from a single source.
